Advanced Vision Technology (AVT), a leader in the vision inspection equipment market, presented a new version of its popular Printvision/Helios technology. Helios II has a renewed platform, new hardware and software and more features.

According to Gal Shamri, VP of marketing, AVT is seeing a steady migration of inspection equipment from the rewinder to the press. “In the last year and a half there has been a clear trend to inspection on press – both on new and existing printing equipment,” he said. Helios II has the capability of counting each label during printing, identifying those with defects (the parameters of which are established by the quality control manager), and electronically flagging them for removal long before the run goes to the rewinder.

AVT has also developed an inspection program for 2D bar codes, a challenging procedure because the system must read each code, verify it against the installed database, find any defective codes or duplicates, all at high rewind speeds. The company’s new Braille inspection system will verify invisible raised codes atop existing visible print in order to meet pending EU requirements for Braille inclusion on specific products.
